When Jesus sent His disciples from village to village to preach, heal the sick and cast out demons (Mark 6:7-13), the disciples appear to have been successful. But while Peter, James and John were with Jesus on the mountain, the other disciples were met with a challenge. A man brought his son to them to be healed of a spirit that made him mute and subject to seizures. The disciples were unable to drive out this spirit.

As Jesus and the three disciples, Peter, James & John, were returning from the mountain, Jesus ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened there until He had risen from the dead.

Jesus said and did some amazing things while He was here. He made claims that we can't always reconcile with our worldview. No one can admire Jesus as a great teacher and in the same breath say that He was not the only way to heaven; If He wasn't God - as He claimed - then His great teachings were the rantings of a megalomaniac. We can't count Him as one among many wise philosophers if He claimed to be superior to all of them.

Last week, in Mark 8:27-30, Peter received divine revelation from God regarding Jesus the Messiah. But how quickly our own intellect reasserts itself in our lives!
