"Jesus looked at him and loved him. 'One thing you lack', He said. 'Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.'" (Mark 10:21)
Is there something wrong with Jesus' definition of love - or is there a problem with our understanding of love? This man - a wealthy man - came to Jesus, falling on his knees before Him and asked what he must do to inherit eternal life. This man had obeyed the commandments, but that's not enough for Jesus here. Jesus knew that the man could continue to follow the commandments.

In 1963 the U.S. Supreme court banned prayer and Bible study in public schools, and in doing so, brought upon themselves the rebuke of Jesus Christ recorded in Mark 10:14 - "Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these".

In many countries today, and in our own western history, divorce was decided at the sole discretion of the man, or of men in authority through biased courts.
In this passage on the subject of divorce, Jesus reminds us about the true gender equality which God has ordained from the beginning.

Jesus took the disciples away from the crowds to teach them privately. Remember that when Jesus was with the crowds, He taught in parables (Mark 4:34). Now, alone with the disciples, Jesus explained everything.
